You can’t really use the expression “I got places to go, people to see” anymore.

Making it. I think it’s about relationships and not to be cliché, but building relationships with everyone that you need including your fans will be the differentiator between growth and no growth. So how do we make people feel good about themselves? How do we make people confident in knowing that they can stick up for themselves? See, your purpose in life, at least so far, is to stand up for those who do not have a voice. Often times, our purpose is multi-layered and there’s more to it, but the first thing that comes to mind when I think of my purpose, our purposes (I, we, Dash) it’s standing up for those that can’t do it for themselves. What’s great about music is that music allows you to do that. Music allows you to express yourself, thus your listener can then listen to you and be inspired to express themselves, and be liberated by your words and energy.
So live in your purpose, be your purpose every single day. And you won’t feel like you’re working. You’re going to feel good about what you do and you won’t feel frustrated because the growth isn’t happening as fast as you want it to. I say it again to emphasize: live in your purpose and do it gleefully. Do it with God. And others will automatically be drawn to you because you have something to serve them with, you are of service to them. Remember you need them as much as they need you. It’s a symbiotic relationship.
When writing Canvas, purpose came to mind a lot. I want this song to liberate the people who listen. I want all my songs to do that. Canvas is about believing in yourself. Believing that you have the power to paint the life you want, to the best of your ability.
